In summer many groups of tourists visit Stromboli as a day trip from neighbour Aeolian islands. Yet half-day excursions to Stromboli do not pay justice to this practically unpolluted island, as the limited time does not consent climbing the volcano or appreciating the starry sky and the eruptions tearing the darkness of the night. Stromboli is definitely a place to visit, but since it is a very special destination it deserves being lived, even if only a few days. The island is well prepared to receive large numbers of tourists, especially in summer. Probably the best periods for a stay are, however, May-June and September-October. In these months the sun is warm but not necessarily scorching, the presence of tourists does not jam the island as in the central summer months, and prices are certainly more affordable.
Accommodations include hotels up to four stars, several inexpensive boarding houses, bed & breakfasts, and home holidays on rent for families. On the other hand there are no camping sites on the island (free camping is forbidden and advised against).
Among the most comfortable accommodations on the island of Stromboli is Locanda del Barbablù. This cozy structure is in an ideal position for those who love the unspoiled nature of the island, without renouncing to the comfort that the village of Stromboli offers, being located near the central square and endowed with an amazing view on the sea and the volcano.
At the harbour you can find the Hotel Ossidiana, that provides a flawless service with all comforts and the convenience of being close to the point of disembarkation on the island.
10 minutes away from the centre, in the quiet location of Piscità, the Casa del Sole, a large, typical Aeolian structure immersed in the green, offers private rooms with bathroom or 6-bed rooms with shared external bathroom. The facility is built on two levels and has 10 rooms overlooking a large courtyard with a garden, a pergola arbour and a shared kitchen. Casa del Sole offers then the possibility of enjoying a convivial atmosphere in a serene location, few steps away from the beach of Grotta di Eolo and from the trail to the Observatory.
For those loving 4 stars hotel, the Hotel la Sciara is active again from last summer. Closed for about 10 years it has been restored to its former glory, with private rooms and small Aeolian flats built around a central pool with a bar where you can taste typical dishes and culinary revisitations prepared by chefs of international reputation.
For a comfortable stay, few steps away from everything, you can consider Casa Erica, an ancient Strombolian house with sea view restructured in the 70’s and put on rent for the first time in 2014. The house is perfect for summer holidays or relaxing breaks; it benefits from an exceptionally central location, especially for the lazy ones! Situated just below San Vincenzo square, it is in fact a stone’s throw from shops, bars and restaurants, and 10 minutes away from the nearest beach.
For those who spend more than 2 nights in Stromboli and want to experience the warmth and intimacy that only an Aeolian house can offer, we recommend Casa Punta Restuccia, on a cliff within walking distance from the sea, in the area of Piscità. Realized in accordance with the criteria of the Aeolian tradition, it is set on an upper floor accessible from independent, external stairs. It comprises two large rooms, both of them with view on the sea and Strombolicchio. The first one is equipped with two single beds, bathroom and kitchen; the second one has a double bed and access to a terrace from where you can enjoy unforgettable sunsets above Spiaggia Lunga.
